The Joint Commission Participation

The Joint Commission conducts unannounced accreditation surveys in participating organizations. The survey is a basis of an objective evaluation process that helps healthcare organizations measure, assess and improve performance. Organizations meeting The Joint Commission standards are awarded accreditation recognition.

The Joint Commission standards focus on patient, individual or resident care and organization functions that are essential in providing safe and high quality care.

Anyone believing he or she has valid information about such matters may request a public interview with The Joint Commission's field representative at the time of a survey. Information presented at the interview will be evaluated for relevance to the accreditation process. Interview requests must be made in writing. The request must indicate the nature of the information to be provided at the interview.

The Joint Commission's office of Quality Monitoring will acknowledge in writing or by telephone. An Account Representative will contact the person requesting the interview before the next The Joint Commission survey. The Joint Commission representative will provide the location, date, and time of the interview and the name of the surveyor who will conduct the interview. This notice is posted in accordance with The Joint Commission's requirement.
